Katy was fortunate to experience a wide variety of clinical placements both during and following her undergraduate career at Elizabethtown College. Each semester, she worked with her clients once a week for the duration of the semester. Elizabethtown has a music therapy clinic in the music building on campus, where Katy worked with children with autism and Down syndrome, adults with autism and varied intellectual disabilities, and an individual child with a traumatic brain injury, PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), and DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). Elizabethtown also had connections off campus; Katy had the opportunity to work with older adults with and without Alzheimer’s disease at the local Masonic Village assisted living facility. Katy also worked at Hershey Medical Center, specifically providing music therapy to pediatric oncology/hematology patients. All placements were supervised by board-certified music therapists. After graduation, Katy completed over 1200 clinical music therapy internship hours with Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Delaware. There, Katy provided music therapy services to hospice patients with a wide variety of terminal diagnoses. At the completion of this internship, Katy became eligible to take her board certification exam, which she passed on July 28, 2018, making her state certified to practice music therapy in PA. Katy is thrilled to be building a practice in collaboration with Valotta Studios!
